The Beginning of Knowledge
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.

People who fear the Lord understand life differently. Whatever situations arise, they perceive it along with its possible outcomes in a much different way than the rest of the world. People who fear the Lord understand that the world is under the sovereign power of God, that nothing happens without passing through Him. They understand that if God allows it, then He has a purpose for it. They understand that God knows more and can see more than they can, that His ways are “higher than our ways.” They also understand that their life is not autonomous. They will be held accountable to God for it, so it must be lived in a manor that honors God and flows out of obedience to Him.
Life does not work properly without acknowledging God. Believers sometimes forget to approach life through the filter of fearing the Lord. Sometimes we forget about God’s sovereign hand being upon every detail of our lives, and we can move into things, or respond to things without acknowledging God or seeking Him. It is at these times that we risk the greatest loss and pain. Not that we don’t experience loss and pain while in full obedience, surely we do, but experiencing loss and pain is one thing, coupling it with shame and guilt from sin makes it far more ailing to us.
My encouragement to you is to approach today with the understanding that all of life is at the feet of God, it is subject to His will and power. Make sure to view the situations in your life today with that understanding. As we find in Romans 8:28, “God is working all things together for the good of those who love Him.” Nothing is happening to you or around you that God has not allowed. He won’t leave you alone as you go through it, and with your faith and trust in Him, He will see you through to the other side. God never fails, and He never leaves His children to fend for themselves. Trust God and press on.
