Forgotten Grief
Grief is an odd thing. It is so suffocating, so present, so tangible. It eats up the minutes and the hours while at the same time slows everything to a crawl, like you are living in slow motion.
Whatever you are grieving over, you are probably surrounded by loved one’s support, at first. You get the hugs, and prayers, and sympathies. And then one day you realize that no one called. No one sent a text. No one remembered that today you are still grieving. How could they forget? You did not forget. How could you? It is ever present. It glues itself to every thought. You cannot escape it. But the world just goes on living. You wonder how others keep on moving, working, and laughing when you feel so much sorrow?
“But God remembered Noah.”
“He remembered Abraham.”
“Then God remembered Rachel.”
“Then you will be remembered by the LORD your God and rescued from your enemies.”
God remembers YOU.
The Lord always remembers his people. But this not just a ‘bringing to mind’ or ‘recalling’, like you and I define remembering. It is an active remembering. He is moved to action upon hearing our cries and seeing our pain. He acts on our behalf. He ushers us into his grace and unfolds his plan with purpose.
He sees his people in their grief when all others have forgotten. He sees you. He knows. He cares. He sings over you. He catches every tear that leaves your eyes. No sorrow is hidden from our Holy God.
Rest tonight that you are remembered by the only One that truly counts.
For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
— (Col. 1:16-17)
Hand your pain over to him. He can carry it for you. Give him all your sadness. He is strong. You are not alone, even when it seems lonely.
You are not forgotten, quite the opposite. You are known, cherished and loved.
He is actively remembering you.
“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine” (Is. 43:1).
