He Leads Me in Paths of Righteousness
He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
— (Psalm 23:3)
I’ve read the 23rd Psalm 1 million times. I have studied it, memorized it, and I’ve heard it taught numerous times. But today, for some reason, Vs. 3 stood out to me like it was in bold print. “He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name sake.”
Paths of righteousness.
The Holy Spirit is sanctifying me. Every. single. moment. He is guiding me down paths of righteousness to get me to trust him, to teach me, to change my heart, to bring glory and honor to His name. We can walk these paths of righteousness in faith because we can trust our Savior.
While the image of a righteous path sounds beautiful (and the sanctification process will certainly make us beautiful) these paths can be treacherous and riddled with pain and even suffering. Christ himself walked a very painful and humiliating path to the cross. And His obedience, to the point of death, transformed the course of my life and eternity, providing my deliverance from sin and death. And yours too, If you follow him.
What path of righteousness are you walking today for His name’s sake? Have you forgotten that each step is unto the Lord? This is not for your own glory, but God’s glory, but it is promised to be for your good. Whatever path of righteousness the Lord has led you down, you are walking with a purpose, with a hope, and with God’s powerful transforming grace. So do not be afraid of where your path may lead you, or what your Heavenly Father may ask of you, but walk in courage and joy. Our life is not our own, and each step is for His glory.
